Dallas mother asks why man who shot at her middle-school son hasn’t been charged

But she's vague about "details" such as why her son was suspended from school and roaming the streets.

Channel 11 visits with the mother of the Hulcy Middle School kid who was shot in the leg by a neighbor on Monday afternoon in south Oak Cliff. The mother is asking why the alleged shooter hasn't been charged yet.

Simple enough. But: the story also says that both she and her son admit to being "vague" about "details" such as why the kid was suspended from class, not attending school, and roaming around on the street. Meanwhile, the guy who did the shooting has guard dogs, big fence, and a "replica artillery piece." And finally, the story quotes neighors who won't disclose their names who say that middle-school students in the area have run wild.

It really doesn't matter why the kid was not in school, or why he was allowed to "run wild".

When a man shoots an unarmed child like this - he deserves to go to jail.

Racism is alive and well in Dallas.

A minor being unarmed does not equate to not being a threat. Especially if they are in a group.

Racism. Of course! Just like in the other recent story, where the African-American teenager got shot by the Dart cop. It's because they're black! Not, say, because these particular kids are jumping out of bushes and attacking cops at 3am, or in this case, roaming around during the schoolday in some crazy man's yard. If the kid was in school, and not in a private fenced-in yard with guard dogs, he wouldn't have been shot. Period.

If the guy did shoot the kid, then he should be charged with a crime if it wasn't in self-defense and the kid wasn't on his property trying to commit a crime. So far it seems the investigators can't find two people telling the same story. But here's the thing. This kid and others should take notice to the new gun laws in Texas, which take effect September 1st. These laws allow the use of lethal force if an intruder is "unlawfully trying to enter a protected place," and they remove an exception which said you must attempt to retreat before shooting. So if we can't get the kids to stay in their own yards, there are going to be a lot more stories like this one, or worse.

Sanders Kaufman, says:

There was nothing to indicate that the kid was a threat to anyone. He was just a little kid.

The location was a nearly all-black neighborhood. The shooter was a neighborhood trouble-maker - a White Separatist who lived, behind a barbed wire fence with vicious attack dogs patrolling his property.

It was clearly a racially motivated attack by an armed white man, and against unarmed black children who were no threat to him whatsoever.

But that doesn't seem to stop his fellow bigots from defending him - by citing their fact-free faith that the little kids were somehow dangerous.

This feeling - that groups of black children are something to be feared and shot at - is common among our growing population of White Separatists here in North Texas.

I just love how loosely the words bigot and racist are bandied about. You simply must find another way to make your point in order to be taken seriously. In a debate, you cannot win the argument simply by calling your opponent names.
