Election results are starting to roll in, as some jurisdictions have already released the early voting tallies. All will be updated as the evening rolls on.

Although early voting results often don't tell the story, two things are already clear. University Park will approve the sale of Potomac Park to SMU for the Dubya Presidential Library. And, the Farmers' Branch immigration ordinance will pass.

We'll be putting final results into individual city and neighborhood stories as they come in (and manpower allows). In the meantime, those who want to follow the nuance of every ebb and flow in between should check out the DMN's election blog.

With all but 7 precincts reporting (at 11:00 PM) a runoff between Tom Leppert and Ed Oakley looks certain in the Dallas mayor's race.

Early voting appears to indicate the Lancaster school district is in for some reform.

Incumbent Trustee Carolyn Morris, often the sole "nay" vote against the remaining "Team of 8", is winning 60% / 40% over challenger Barbara Ann Dixon.

But incumbent Trustee Nannett Vick, president of the board that has three time forwarded Dr Lewis's tear-down-and-rebuild bond programs to the the voters, is now running behind challenger Marjorie King. Dr King leads Ms Vick 59% to 41% as of 9:00 p.m.

As for those bond programs -- this time comprising a package of 6 propositions totaling $142 million -- all six are failing. The closest race is for prop six, regarding purchase of new school buses. That "close" contest is, at the moment, running 61% against and 39% for. The runaway race is prop 5, regarding refurbishing the old football stadium. As of the 9:00 p.m. results that idea is being rejected 71% to 29%. Overall nearly 2/3rd of votes counted so far have demonstrated skepticism of the district's leadership, management, and plans.

The opera ain't over until the fat lady sings, of course. But at the moment it looks like interesting times ahead for Lancaster.

I'd be interested to know how much tax money the school district wasted trying to get out the so called "facts" in support of the bond. Did they pay all those school officials overtime to show up and stand around while a paltry few citizens listened? How much did the extra air conditioning and lighting cost while the district promoted the bond? How much did all those mailings and literature cost? How much did the pro-bond PAC spend over the past year? How does the pro-bond PAC's budget compare to the anti-bond group's budget?

I'd like to see the same comparison between Vick and King. This would help tell us whether the grass roots really won or whether there were just a few special interests driving the Vick campaign and the bond inititiative.

We know what is going to happen. The pro-bond group is going to start talking about the lying and misinformation given out by the anti-bond group. I hope that people, instead of reacting in such an immature fashion, will be a little more humble and introspective.
