After mucho anticipation, Allen ISD has announced its 2007 Teachers of the Year. The winning ladies are Rountree Elementary School’s Davia Madariaga and the Lowery Freshman Center’s Roynda Storey.

Madariaga, whose name is delightfully difficult to pronounce, is a sixth grade language arts and social studies teacher who previously taught fifth grade in Richardson ISD.

“I am honored beyond belief to have been selected,” Madariaga tells whoever the anonymous person is that does the Allen ISD press releases.

Aside from teaching ninth grade ESL, and pre-AP Spanish at Allen's Lowery Freshman Center, the multi-talented Mrs. Storey also teaches reading. Get it? Storey? Methinks she was meant for the job, just like how current U.S. Secretary of Education Margaret Spellings landed her gig.

“I feel simultaneously validated and humbled,” said Storey to the same anonymous person.

Both Madariaga and Storey will be recognized at the 2007 Superintendent’s Recognition Breakfast on May 14.
