Robber caught in Dallas jacking truck full of Skittles
In a world that has M&M almonds, who'd go for Skittles?
DALLAS — What's the best thing about this item about a guy who was discovered by the cops on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. in the 5100 block of Lamar Street South seemingly having stolen a tractor-trailer truck?
Is it that:
- When the cops caught Alan Chavez, 22, removing the tires, he claimed he'd paid someone $500 for the tires and rims?
- Or is it that the the truck was loaded with Skittles*?
- Or is it that the truck was supposed to contain 28 pallets of Skittles but 7 were missing?
*Skittles: "small, round fruit chews that come in hard, sugar shells with the letter "s" printed on them, representing the candy's name... similar in outward appearance to plain M&M's, which, like Skittles, are produced by MasterFoods, a division of Mars, Incorporated."

Hey, I had nothing to do with this. I just happen to know off the top of my head that there are 2.7 oz of skittles to a package; 36 packages to a box; 12 boxes to a 40 lb case; and there are about 36 cases to a pallet.

Off the top of my head, I'd say someone carried off 10,080 pounds (or 4,572.2 kg) of Skittles. Can you imagine the mess if all those boxes broke open and spilled Skittles all over the Woodall Rogers?

Here comes the journalism prof again: Nice breezy story, but a brief description of what Skittles are would have been nice. From the comments, I'm guessing that is a candy, one of those that come in little envelopes. Am I right?

if you look on <a href="http://frontburner.dmagazine.com/2007/05/14/skittles-skedaddled/">FrontBurner</a>, you'll see a relevant conversation regarding the <em>DMN</em>'s description of said "skittles." As Adam points out, the <em>DMN</em> originally offered a descriptor: "Police were still trying to locate the thousands of missing <em>rainbow colored, fruit-flavored candy</em>" -- a descriptor that was <a href="http://frontburner.dmagazine.com/2007/05/14/re-skittles/">later removed</a>.
