Chesapeake Energy will begin drilling the first of 300 natural gas wells at DFW International Airport this week.
Chesapeake Energy will begin drilling the first of 300 natural gas wells at DFW International Airport this week. Apparently, the airport sits on top of 18,000 acres of gas rich land that has been contracted out to Chesapeake.

Always good to keep those explosive sites handy at the airport.

I read this twice before I realized that it had nothing to do with getting a charbroiled burger at the gate.

Amazing that no one in the City of Dallas had the courage to suggest that at least some of this windfall be remitted back to the airport's owners (the cities of Dallas and Fort Worth- who actually paid for the land and the mineral rights).
Rather, the Airport Board has already indicated that the vast majority of this money will be passed through to the airlines via a reduction in landing fees, with a small remainder used to improve airside facilities (bathrooms, etc.).
An gigantic gift for American Airlines, courtesy of our local governments.
Well done, Laura Miller!

i like this reaction from Scotsman.com in the U.K. that begins: "In Texas, it seems they'll drill for oil and gas just about anywhere."
