Collin College hosts senior events this summer

SAIL away.

If you're a senior (defined by Merriam-Webster as "a person older than another," which could apply to almost everyone on the planet if you look at it in those strict-constructionist terms) living in or around Plano and are looking for ways to pass the time (of which you of course have less and less to look forward to) this summer, then consider the SAIL program held at Collin College's Courtyard for Professional and Economic Development.

SAIL has nothing to do with actual sailing, but is rather a clever upbeat-sounding acronym which derives when one selects the first letters of the words "Seniors Active in Learning." (Or "Stopover at Irene's Liver", but that phrase is totally meaningless in the present instance, so why dwell on it any further? Honestly, stop thinking about Irene's liver, if you know what's good for you.) The SAIL folks have on their agenda this summer a series of free programs such as computer classes, a book discussion group, drawing classes, mah jongg, digital photography instruction and current events discussions.

They will also be hosting a Brown Bag Lunch Series featuring such luminaries as DMN columnist James Ragland, along with humorist/author Rose-Mary Rumbley, author of What! No Chili!, and - in special performance - McKinney’s Evening Stars dance troupe. (Hey, I think I may have dated that blond in the back row...)

For more information about individual events, contact SAIL at 972-985-3788, or send an email query to wjmartin@ccccd.edu.
