TWU gymnastics coach gets NCAA recognition
Lisa Klein, Texas Woman’s University’s graduate assistant gymnastics coach, picked up a prestigious award at the recent National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches/Women Convention in Mason, Ohio.
Klein (pictured), who has been a part of the TWU program since January 2005, was chosen as the 2007 NCAA Division II Gymnastics Assistant Coach of the Year. The annual award, which is voted on by the University coaches within Division II, is given to “the person that has truly made an impact on the sport during the year”.
Klein served as the Pioneers head beam coach and assisted with floor choreography during TWU’s recently completed 2007 season. Under Klein’s direction, TWU freshman gymnast Rachel Zimmerman captured the 2007 USAG National Championship on beam.
Frank Kudlac, the Pioneers head gymnastics coach, was excited to see Klein take home the coaching honor.
“Lisa did an outstanding job for us this year,” said Kudlac. “Her coaching was one of the main reasons that beam was our strongest event this season. She is definitely deserving of this award.”
