17 year-old boy arrested after police standoff in Dallas

Witnesses state that at some point this morning, Quentin Carson (black, male, 17 years old) entered a residence at 1500 E Pentagon Parkway in Dallas by unknown means. The suspect was confronted by a victim (black, male, 69 years old). The suspect assaulted the victim with a knife. At about 2:30 AM a witness called an ambulance from the location. Upon arrival of the Dallas Fire Department, a witness told them that the suspect was still inside location armed and that there were two other people inside (1 injured). The Fire department then called for police. Prior to police arrival, it is alleged that the suspect sexually assaulted a second victim (black, female, 16 years old). Patrol officers did a wonderful job of getting the two victims out of the residence and securing the location for the arrival of SWAT. SWAT negotiators were able to talk the suspect out of the residence without further incident at about 6:30 AM.
The stabbing victim was transported to Methodist in serious condition. The sexual assault victim was also transported to the hospital. Carson was arrested.

I can't see why the mention of skin color matters except in cases when the suspect is at large and is a danger to the public. However I agree with Mr. Kaufman in that racial identification should be applied either universally or not at all.

I think it is great that you identified the races of all involved, victims and perps, and you should do that for EVERY story involving crimes, no matter what the race. It is just more factual information to keep the public fully aware and safe. For once, at least in part, I agree with that whiney liberal Sanders Kaufman.
Fun fact: Blacks are only 11.7% of the population of Texas but they account for 40.9% of those on death row.

If you are a conservative Republican, I am the Dictator of the Universe. All I have ever done is quote facts from the Justice Department about the relationships that various races have with crime. If that is racist then the LIFE ITSELF is racist.... hmmm, maybe it actually is! Waaaaaaah! Pit Bulls and Golden Retreivers are supposedly almost exactly the same genetically, but I would much rather leave my baby in a room full of hungry Golden Retreivers than in a room full of hungry Pit Bulls.

But "WAAAAAH WAAAAAH", I am a "racist" if I take these SOLID FACTS into account when trying to keep myself and my family safe.
Personally, I have been violently attacked by black men 5 times in my life, one stabbing attack almost killing me. These were just random violence attacks, and only one of the attacks was any kind of "robbery", and it was an unsuccessful robbery at that, due to the robber's STUPIDITY.
I would have to be a naive idiot to not take into consideration my own personal experience coupled with the FACTS about the EPIDEMIC LEVELS OF BLACK MALE CRIME.
If I am actually a "racist" instead of a "realist", then I am a "racist" ONLY because the obnoxious, violent, criminal behaviour that I have personally experienced from Black Males has made me "racist". I was not raised to be a "racist". Black men made me one.
It was only AFTER being attacked 5 times that I woke up and became aware of the FACTS about the massive amounts of "Black Male Crime", as cited above.
Why don't YOU take an HONEST LOOK at "the available evidence".

I'm sorry, Abraham -- the comments backed up with stats can stand, but the last two were flat out offensive, racist, and beyond the standards of our site. I saw them as deliberately inflammatory, and insulting to many of our readers.

How can poverty explain the phenomenon of rape? Rape can only be considered a product of poverty if women are considered to be "property" or "merchandise" and that men are compelled to rape them because they are impoverished, not criminal scumbags.

According to the latest US Department of Justice survey of crime victims, more than 6.6 million violent crimes (murder, rape, assaultand robbery) are committed in the US each year, of which about 20 per cent,or 1.3 million, are inter-racial crimes.
Most victims of race crime -- about 90 per cent -- are white, according to the survey "Highlights From 20 Years of Surveying Crime Victims," published in 1993. [Abe's note: it has gotten worse since 1993]
Almost 1 million white Americans were murdered, robbed, assaulted or rapedby black Americans in 1992, compared with about 132,000 blacks who weremurdered, robbed, assaulted or raped by whites, according to the same survey.
Blacks thus committed 7.5 times more violent inter-racial crimes than whites even though the black population is only one-seventh the size of the white population. When these figures are adjusted on a per capita basis,they reveal an extraordinary disparity: blacks are committing more than 50 times the violent racial crimes of whites.
According to the latest annual report on murder by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, most inter-racial murders involve black assailants and white victims, with blacks murdering whites at 18 times the rate that whites murder blacks.

The disparity in numbers of black on white versus white on black crime can probably be attributed to the fact that there are simply way more whites than blacks.
One must also take into account the fact that felons in todays society have little chance if any at resuming a normal life. This after they have repaid their debt to society. Once a person is convicted of a felony, it's basically a life sentence.

Dylan, you have it backwards. If there are "way more whites than blacks", then the stats PROVE that blacks actually commit far more crimes. Blacks make up ONLY about 12% of the population (11.7 % of Texas population) but commit a disproportionate amount of the crimes. It is a matter of proportionality.
Also, if someone has been convicted of a violent felony such as rape, murder, robbery, or aggravated assault, then in my opinion they should either be imprisioned for life or executed.
Also, according to the DOJ and many Police Departments, "Hispanics" or "Latinos" are unfairly counted in the "White" category, which raises the "white crime rate" even more.

Many poor "Boat People" came to the USA without any money and without speaking English, yet many of them have become very successful business owners because of their own hard work and efforts. If poverty causes crime, then why is that the case?

Just please understand that you cannot simply use a giant brush to paint an entire section of our population as degenerate criminals. The vast, vast majority of Americans are gentile, kind, and law abiding people.
These statistics do not serve as a route to fix the problem. Instead they serve as a vehicle for people to reinforce their perceptions. If numbers such as you have presented are to be of any use, other cofactors need to be included for a proper conclusion.

Abraham, you seem to think that everything is somehow related in an interconnected web vis-a-vis crimes that happen to be committed by African Americans. That's pretty far away from one boy who committed one crime in Dallas.
We encourage open discussion of local issues, but you'll not turn this site into a forum to advocate against any specific race. We've been more than fair in leaving up comments of this nature with a tenuous tie to local news. If you feel ill-used, I suggest you find a new site to hijack with racist venom.
