Cedar Valley College teacher named Piper Professor
Dr. Germany, I presume?
It probably comes as no surprise to the students in his music classes, or to those who participate in programs put on by the Family Music Theatre (which he directs), but it's widely believed that Dr. Sam Germany is doing a fine job.
The administrators of the Minnie Stevens Piper Foundation certainly take this attitude, because they've declared him one of this year's Piper Professors, joining the ranks of honorees such as Ron French up at Texas Women's University. The honor comes with a $5,000 stipend from the state-administered Foundation, along with a gold pin commemorating his recognition as an outstanding educator.
"Music is my second language," says Germany (who fails to reveal in this press release what his actual first language might be). He's certainly got plenty on the ball musically, what with his childhood experience (he was a singer in his family's vocal trio) and professional stints as a pianist, vocalist, musical theater organizer and a doctorate from the University of North Texas under his belt. While at Cedar Valley College, he's taught courses in voice, piano, music theory, electronic music and music theater. Other honors conferred upon the good doctor have included a Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities; CVC's Outstanding Adjunct Excellence in Teaching Award; recognition as one of the Outstanding Young Men of America; the CVC President's Award for Excellence in Musical Theatre Directing; and the CVC Community Service Award.
Sam, who currently resides in Duncanville, believes he was destined to teach; with a name like Dr. Germany, however, he might easily have gone in another direction. I'm just sayin'.
