Daylight savings Saturday night will likely wreak havoc on clocks and teen drivers

One-week delay in daylight savings time is thoroughly confusing VCRs and other timed appliances that re-set themselves last week.

Fallout from the annual daylight savings time change taking place early Sunday morning includes not only those VCRs whose pre-programmed chips reflected the old school time change which would have taken place last weekend, but also teenage drivers, for whom "driving at night" is among the top factors for causing accidents, according to a recent study released by the Texas Transportation Institute.

Nearly two-thirds of teen crashes happen between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m., according to public safety officials. Other high-risk behaviors: talking on the cellphone and texting on their cellphones. Among those surveyed locally were students from high schools in Garland, Carrollton, Rowlett, and Sachse.

The study was released to put teens and their parents on alert what with daylight saving time changing this weekend.
