From FRI Weed and Seed Coordinator Kerry Goodwin:

While I will forward a complete agenda on Monday, please note that we will be discussing what appears on the surface to be the growing presence of a new gang in our community, the possibility of forming a multi-jurisdictional law enforcement committee to better address responses to crime issues, and discussion of next year's budget and plan of action.

I am also pleased to announce that we have received a grant from USDOJ-Project Safe Neighborhoods (in partnership with the North Texas Crime Commission) to hire a gang specialist, and I'm pleased to report that we were able to hire Ms. Gail Washington to begin the process of developing and launching a gang prevention initiative over the next 12 months. Ms. Washington was previously with the Ft. Worth PD as a crime analyst.

Also this week we received news from the USDOJ that indicates FY 2008 budgets are due in Wasington D.C. on January 15th at 4pm eastern time. In order to meet this deadline we will need a great deal of support and assistance from each of you as we prepare our application and update our plan of action.

Finally, I emailed you earlier a memorandum from the nominating committee seeking your assistance in identifying new board members and making nominations to serve on our leadership team. Please consider this carefully, and mark you calendar for our Annual Meeting scheduled for January 14th, 2008.

We do not anticipate that our meeting will be too long, as many of us have another meeting directly following at S.S. Conner Elementary at 7pm to support the development of a new crime watch group in Reporting Area 1177.
