On Sunday, November 4, 2007, the Mansfield Independent School District named their new Operations Complex after a former special education bus driver who passed away in 2003.

Danny Griffin.

Danny Griffin.

Danny Griffin worked for the MISD Transportation Department for 20 years. He and his wife, Verna, were the first husband and wife special-needs driving team, driving as partners for 17 years.

“Danny Griffin was the model school bus driver; dependable, compassionate, loyal, and trustworthy,” says Joe Glover MISD Director of School Services.

In January 2003, Danny was diagnosed with brain cancer. “Through all of his chemotherapy and radiation treatments, he still kept his charming and witty personality,” recalls his daughter, Heather. “He left impressive footprints on your heart, and you couldn't help but love him and want to be around him.”

Danny was also well known in the community as pastor of Walnut Creek Church of God for 21 years. “We were with Danny during his courageous battle with cancer,” recalls church member, Bill Jezek. “Danny focused all of the energy he had towards the well being of his flock, family and friends - putting his problems aside.”

Danny Griffin passed away May 18, 2003.
