McKinney ISD journalism students capture awards at TAJE convention

SAN ANTONIO – Journalism students from McKinney High School, McKinney North High School and Scott Johnson Middle School in the McKinney Independent School District recently won awards at the Texas Association of Journalism Educators (TAJE) Fall Fiesta in San Antonio, Texas. The TAJE Fall Fiesta, held Oct. 27 – 29, is the high school and middle school fall state convention for journalism.
Keep it up, kids, or you too might have to work with people like this.
Students and student produced publications from McKinney High School won several awards at the convention. The McKinney High School 2007 Lion Yearbook won 1st place Best of Show for medium yearbooks. In addition, Emily Judd won Excellent in Photography Portfolio and Madeline Taylor and Bailey Cox won Excellent for On-Site Theme Package.
The McKinney High School Broadcasting department also won awards at the convention. Ryan Serr won Superior for Videography and Jacob Sprouse and Brennan Lane won an honorable mention for In-Camera Feature.

McKinney North High School’s Newspaper, Polaris, received an Honorable Mention in the Best of Show Competition for medium newspapers. The school’s yearbook, Reflections won third place in the Best of Show Competition in the medium yearbooks category.
Individual award winners from McKinney North High School were Megan Robinson, (On-Site Editorial Illustration – Honorable Mention); Lisa Cass, (On-Site Photo Architecture- Excellence and On-Site Photo People- Superior); Annica Russo, (Carry-In Newspaper Photography- Excellence) and Lauren Herbst, (Carry-In Newspaper Photography- Honorable Mention and Carry-In Photo Portfolio- Excellence).
