Texas Wesleyan volleyball sweeps matches to end regular season
The Texas Wesleyan University volleyball team closed out the regular season by sweeping a tough road trip. The Rams (28-14, 10-0 RRAC) started the day at 11:00 a.m. in Muskogee, OK, where they took a Red River Athletic Conference win over Bacone College (1-17, 1-6) 3-0. They then traveled to Siloam Springs for a 5:00 p.m. contest with John Brown University (13-38) in which the Rams prevailed 3-1.
Against Bacone, the Rams won with scores of 30-14, 30-16, and 30-11. Sandra Ayala led the way with 10 kills and nine digs. Liz Meng posted eight kills and six service aces. Ashley Mock tossed in five aces, and Evoni Darling notched 34 assists.
Against John Brown, the Rams took games one and two 30-22 and 30-24. The Golden Eagles took a 30-25 win in game three, but the Lady Rams closed out the match with a 30-21 win in game four.
Meng racked up 21 kills against John Brown. Ayala and Erinn Miller both finished with double-doubles. Ayala had 18 kills and 16 digs, while Miller posted 13 kills and 12 digs. Darling had 40 assists, and Mock recorded 23 digs.
At 10-0 in conference play, the Rams have taken the RRAC North Division title. They will likely be the second seed in the next weeks RRAC Tournament. Texas Wesleyan will host that tournament November 9-10. Quarterfinal action will start in the Sid Richardson center at 9:00 a.m. on Friday. Semifinal games will be played at 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. on Friday with the championship game to be played on Saturday.
