UT Southwestern doc lauded by American Heart Association

Dr. Hobbs has a lot on her platelet. (Get it?)

Does this valiant researcher look sleep-deprived? Because she ought to, given her professional workload.

Dr. Helen Hobbs was named a Distinguished Scientist by the American Heart Association, joining the ranks of four other UT Southwestern medical researchers so honored.

Dr. Hobbs' research centers on identifying and characterizing genetic factors as they affect variances in patient blood cholesterol levels (and resulting susceptibility to coronary heart disease). She is director of the Eugene McDermott Center for Human Growth and Development and an investigator for the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. On an academic level, Dr. Hobbs is a professor of internal medicine and molecular genetics and directs the Donald W. Reynolds Cardiovascular Clinical Research Center at UT Southwestern. This organization oversees the Dallas Heart Study, a multi-year, multi-million dollar project aimed at learning more about the hidden causes of heart disease and finding new treatments.

The AHA award recognizes members whose work has "advanced the understanding and management of cardiovascular disease and stroke." Congrats, Dr. Hobbs, and keep up the good work. (And, hey - go ahead and take some time out for sleep once in a while, O.K.? You deserve it.)
