North Texas businessman to serve as moderator at the Afghan-American Chamber of Commerce Conference
Box International Consulting announced today that its President, Tom Box, will be a moderator at the Afghan-American Chamber of Commerce Conference (AACC) to be held on November 11, 2007 in Washington, D.C. at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center.
The purpose of the Conference is to illustrate and promote the investment climate and opportunities in the emerging and transitional economy in Afghanistan, and how U.S. companies can collaborate with Afghan companies.
Attendees of the conference will include U.S. Secretary of Commerce, The Honorable Carlos M. Gutierrez and U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, The Honorable Zalmay Khalilzad. Representatives from the Afghan Government, the Embassy of Afghanistan, as well as key Afghan business leaders will be in attendance, along with representatives from the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA), the World Bank and many other agencies, corporations, academic institutions, investment firms and think tanks.
Among other events at the conference, a major USGS report will be released on the mineral potential of Afghanistan. Ms. Virginia Sheffield, AACC Board Member, said “the Afghan-American Chamber of Commerce has requested Mr. Box to be a moderator at the Conference because of Box International’s history of interest in the cement and coal sectors in Afghanistan, and the USGS report describing the mineral potential of Afghanistan represents significant commercial opportunities for long-term economic growth and security, which is a priority of all who are involved with the future of Afghanistan.”
