McKinney’s ‘Kid Council’ program continues with visit from Valley Creek Elementary
MCKINNEY The City of McKinney's Kid Council program continues Friday, Nov. 9 at 10 a.m. in the McKinney City Council Chambers. Third graders from Valley Creek Elementary will come to City Hall to learn about the role of elected officials in the City of McKinney.
Kid Council is offered by the City's Community Services Department to third grade classes in McKinney Independent School District. City staff and City Council members welcome the students and explain how their city works.
Following the introduction is a mock council meeting, with students serving as the elected officials. The children select seven students - a mayor and six city council members - to represent their school at the meeting. The Kid Council is presented information by City staff and asked to choose between such items as a spending money for an expansion for Old Settlers Aquatic Center or purchasing more equipment for the Police Department.
Schools interested in additional information about Kid Council should call Lincoln Thompson at 972-547-7521 or email: lthompson@mckinneytexas.org
