On Tuesday, voters in Mesquite cast their ballots in favor of Proposition one, which allows for the legal sale of mixed beverages in restaurants by food and beverage certificate holders.

However, they stopped short of approving Proposition 2, which would allow the legal sale of beer and wine for off-premise consumption only.

Translation: you can still get a margarita at On the Border, but there will be no beer or wine stores popping up in town.

Proposition 1 was passed by 59.98% to 40.02%, while Prop 2 was defeated 53.29% to 46.71%.

The results were a battle of similar-sounding grass-roots groups, with the group "Save Our Stores" championing both props, "Save Our Community" opposing both props, and "Save Our Children" opposing Prop 2 for the obvious maternal concerns.
