Here are the openings (and closings) in Dallas' wonderful world of art this weekend.
- Barnaby Fitzgerald's "...complexions of the avatars..." opens at Valley House. SMU Professor Barnaby Fitzgerald’s recent egg tempera paintings reveal the subtle complexions of the avatars that personify his fantasies – all derived from a wondrous and rich inner life sparked by dreams of history, literature, science, music, food, and memory. Fitzgerald’s avatars tell age-old tales with the freshness of an inventive, witty mind. His sensitivity to the tone of light in these scenarios captivates the senses.
- City Gallery is having a Closing Reception for Kevin Obregon's 'Twilight' on Friday night. This closing reception will include a live art performance by the artist as well as drumming. Check it out before it's gone.
- City Gallery is also hosting "Art Chicas Unidas", an exhibit for one night only showcasing the works of female high school students who have been partnered with local artists in a unique one day art mentoring experience.
- Carrie Garner's Galleria d'Arte is opening Los Dias de los Muertos – The Days of the Dead. Carrie Garner’s Galleria d’ Arte welcomes back artist extraordinaire and gallery friend, Kim Lanus for the second annual Los Dias de los Muertos celebration. Ms. Lanus’ paintings are created on tin and wood in the old retablos and Italian style of painting. All pieces are sealed for longevity, and each piece is framed in the time-honored gothic European tradition. Ms. Lanus’ collectors include former ABC anchorman, Sam Donaldson and President George W. Bush.
