MCKINNEY The City of McKinney will honor Veterans from Collin County at a ceremony at 3 p.m. on Nov. 11, near the site of the planned McKinney Veterans Memorial Park. The names of the 312 Collin County residents who died in the service of their country will be read. Congressmen Sam Johnson and Ralph Hall, and Mayor Bill Whitfield will address the crowd. A flyover of AT-6 aircraft in a Missing Man formation will cap off the service.
"The purpose of the McKinney Veterans Memorial Park is to recognize the service of all veterans. Special recognition will be given to those from Collin County who lost their lives defending our country by having their names engraved on a wall within the park," said Director of Parks and Recreation Lemuel Randolph. "We are accepting public donations now to raise enough funds to build the park for our veterans."
Ronnie Foster, a Marine Corps Vietnam veteran from McKinney, will act as Master of Ceremonies.
"I began researching the names of Collin County men and women who never came home after a former high school classmate asked about my friend and fellow Marine, Bill Bryan. Bill died in Vietnam. I want Bill and every Veteran to be remembered for their service," said Foster.
The service is on Weiskopf Ave. in Craig Ranch across from the Tournament Players Clubhouse at Craig Ranch, 8000 Collin McKinney Parkway. For information about the ceremony and how to donate to the McKinney Veterans Memorial Park, visit www.mckinneytexas.org
