UPDATED: Meet the UTA mascot
The UTA mascot’s name, chosen by vote of the student body, will be announced at Monday's basketball game.
ARLINGTON—University of Texas at Arlington fans will get their first chance to meet the university’s new mascot at basketball games Monday, Nov. 12, in Texas Hall, 701 W. Nedderman Drive. Just before the men’s basketball game, which begins at 7:30 p.m. the mascot’s name, chosen by vote of the student body, will be announced. At halftime, approximately 8:15 p.m., President James Spaniolo will present the newly-named mascot with a UT Arlington jersey.
The evening gets under way at 5 p.m. with the women’s basketball game. The women’s team will be playing Pittsburg State and the men’s team will take on the University of California-Riverside.
Updated: The new UTA mascot name is Blaze.

Pretty sure they're still the Mavericks -- just that the mascot's name is Blaze. As in Blaze the Maverick, Billy the Marlin (Florida Marlins), etc.

I always thought there were way more "blazers" up at North Texas State than at UTA.
