Navy 74, University of North Texas (UNT) 62
DENTON The UNT Mean Green were on the losing side of one of the highet-scoring shootouts in college history Saturday, giving up a score on nearly every possession in a 74-62 loss in Denton. The loss drops UNT to 1-8 on the season in new head coach Todd Dodge's first year at the college level.
UNT quarterback Giovanni Vizza had an incredible statistical day, going 40-for-50 for 478 yards, eight touchdowns and two interceptions. Vizza also led the team in rushing with 13 carries for 93 yards.
Therein lay the problem: while UNT put up impressive offensive stats, they were completely unable to stop Navy's vaunted rushing attack, which gained an astonishing 572 yards on 57 carries, a 10.0 average per rush. Navy lost just one fumble over those 57 carries, keeping UNT's hopes of a free possession and score unattainable.
