Dallas Stars fire GM Doug Armstrong
So much for 'staying the course.'
DALLAS The Dallas Stars fired General Manager Doug Armstrong Tuesday, citing a need for healthy change. The firing occured just days after one of the franchise's most embarrassing losses ever, a 6-5 overtime loss in which the Stars blew a 4-0 lead with eight minutes remaining.
No replacements have been named as yet. The firing ends Armstrong's 17-year tenure with the organization, including nearly half a decade as the Stars' GM. Under Armstrong, the Stars were perennially one of the best regular-season teams in the NHL, but despite an annual roster loaded with veteran talent, Dallas was unable to get anything done in the playoffs, advancing past the first round just once.
Next on the chopping block might be head coach Dave Tippett, who, along with Armstrong, is one of the primary architects of this current Stars team. Continued poor play and unmotivated players may bring even more wholesale changes to the team in the upcoming weeks or months.

I'd rather see him just sell the team and let someone that actually cares about sports to get on with it.
While I thought Armie was a great GM (until recently perhaps), I think making a change is a step in the right direction.
Although, we all know how many GMs & Managers the Rangers have gone through over the years, and look where they're at. So I'm not expecting greatness till I see it.
But, I'll take this as a positive for now.

Yep, this fish is rotting from the head. Unfortunately, the rotten head isn't the GM. Maybe someone needs to start peddling 'Sell the Stars' T-shirts before the game...

Todd... you are a journo for a hyper-local news-web group, no?
May I suggest that you check and link local before doing a cut and paste from ESPN.com?
You may start here: http://www.pegasusnews.com/news/2007/...
You could have been 2+ hours ahead of yourself.
Yer welcum... ;-)

Thanks Billusa99, but I actually rely on the always-excellent Andrew's Stars Page for by-the-minute updates, but unfortunately, they require a small subscription fee to read the articles, unlike ESPN.
Well worth it, tho, like $8/year. Also happens to be a Pegasus Content Partner, if we may be allowed to shill a little.
