Collin College math professor named U.S. Professor of the Year

Emerging at the pinnacle of the heap among community college professors across the nation, Dr. Rosemary Karr (who really photographs well, I must say) accepted her award for U.S. Professor of the Year today (Nov. 15) in Washington, D.C. The honor is bestowed by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education and the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching; it amounts to the "holy grail" of undergraduate teaching awards, and marks the third time since 2000 that the award has been conferred on a professor at Collin College.

Comments Dr. Karr: "I am honored to represent community colleges and pleased to be able to bring this national recognition to Collin College. Every student should have the opportunity to acquire the necessary knowledge and skills for employment in a global economy. I take my inspiration from the desire to see them do just that.”

College president Cary Israel notes that Dr. Karr is the first community college mathematics professor to be so honored, in addition to being the first developmental education professor to be nationally recognized with such an award. “Rosemary Karr," states Israel, "is a remarkable professor with a natural gift for teaching. She truly deserves this honor, and she is a fine example of our outstanding faculty.”

Dr. Karr, we salute you. Keep up the good work.
