This weekend’s art openings and receptions
This weekend has a lot of opportunities, in addition to the list of ongoing artsy events, to catch some excellent local art.
- The Bath House Cultural Center is hosting its annual Winter Art Mart, featuring paintings, sculpture, photography, pottery, ceramics, jewelry, cards and other unique creations up for sale. There will also be live music and a silent auction. The event is Saturday and Sunday, with a reception on Friday from 7-9.
- Maria Jose Concha and Larry Whitely are opening their exhibit at Decorazon in the Bishop Arts District. The exhibit will run through January 14.
- The Dallas Museum of Art will keep its doors open until midnight on Friday with Late Nights at the DMA. This is a great opportunity to check out Phil Collins' (the artist, not the singer) "The world won't listen", a video installation of people singing karoke. There will also be a lecture held at 9 p.m. during the event discussion the exhibit "Domains of Wonder: Selected Masterworks of Indian Painting".
- The Dallas Contemporary is holding the artist reception for the Open Doors project "Expansion". Yes, the opening is a $10 cover ($5 for students), but it's free for members so you can always become a member when you show up. Hey, it's for the sake of art, and fun and interesting art at that. Show 'em a little love.
