Dallas police taking strict stance on loud noise violations

Well, I know there's at least one user of our site that's sure to be ecstatic about this news: The Dallas Police Department will no longer issue a warning for first-time offenders of anti-noise ordinances. Instead, they will issue you a fine and/or arrest you if they deem it necessary.

Here's the wording of the DPD's policy: "The city Anti-noise Ordinance states that a person commits an offense if they make or cause to be made any loud and disturbing noise or vibration in the city that is offensive to the ordinary sensibilities of the inhabitants of the city." The key term for me there is "ordinary sensibilities of the inhabitants of the city." What is ordinary? Is that like the definition of pornography -- "I know it when I see it (or in this case, hear it)?" According to the DPD's press release, it doesn't seem as if anyone would have a chance to make a case for themselves. Rather, if someone complains about them, they're getting a fine and/or thrown in jail.
