TWU drama department does Edward Albee (times two)
It's the playwright's 80th birthday, so why not produce a couple of his plays?
The drama department at Texas Woman's University will be putting on free performances of two early Edward Albee plays, The American Dream and The Sandbox, in honor of the playwright's 80th birthday.
Oddly, the double-feature performances will take place on Nov. 30 and Dec. 1 (at the Redbud Theatre Complex beginning at 8 p.m.), even though Albee's birthday is actually March 12 (1928). Guess the organizers are trying to get a jump on the Albee play-producing competition.
Actors in the two performances include Susan Serota, Dan Pucul, Audrey Lewis, Taylor Reed, Tristan Decker and Luis Rendon.
Master's degree candidate Sherrie Wollenhaupt will direct, while Jill Laney and Kristina Gerling will stage manage. Dan Pucul serves as set designer; Georgana Jinks does costumes and Brandianne Kramer will work the lights. Chris Taylor will be standing by in the wings to help out as assistant director.
