Dallas designer’s time on Project Runway cut short

Jeffery "Marion" Lee, the proprietor of Dallas' Urban Flower Grange Hall, was eliminated from Season Four of Project Runway on Wednesday, November 21.

Things initially looked good for Lee on the second episode of the season. Guest judge Sarah Jessica Parker challenged the 14 contestants to create an affordable, two-piece garment that would fit the design concept behind Parker's "Bitten" clothing line. Although Lee was one of seven designers whose sketch was chosen for presentation on the runway, the judges criticized both his fabric choice and the construction of his garment.

Lee's design of a skirt and knitted poncho was described as "sad" by several of the judges, although host Heidi Klum preferred to call it the "Pocahontas" dress. The main design error appeared to be Lee's selection of a loosely-knitted fabric for the poncho. The knit sagged with the weight of the garment once it was on the model, which led to one judge's comment that the garment appeared to be "melting." Lee's partner on the design, Steven Rosengard, appeared to be overwhelmed by the complexity of Lee's design, as well, especially given the short time period the designers had to make the garment.

Lee expressed his disappointment that he would not have more time in which to fully present his designs on the show. But, given the fact that reality shows often call back eliminated contestants to supporting roles in the competition, perhaps Marion will receive another chance to make his mark before Season 4 comes to a close.
