— Visitors to Historic Downtown McKinney this weekend will once again enjoy the magic of a White Christmas at the city's 27th Annual Dickens of a Christmas. Each evening from Nov. 23 - 25, snow-making machines lining the roof tops of Tennessee Street will produce vanishing snow, adding to the effect of twinkling lights, traveling carolers, train rides for the kids, Victorian costumes and much more during the holiday event.

"The snowfall will add a dramatic effect to the already festive atmosphere, creating a winter wonderland for the entire family during the long-running McKinney Dickens of a Christmas," said Main Street Program Director Ty Lake.

Dickens of a Christmas runs from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Nov. 23 and 24 and from noon to 6 p.m. on Nov. 25. The event is free to the public, and free shuttle service will be provided by CCART.

In addition to the festive nightly snowfall, the 159 year-old town square will resemble an old-fashioned, Victorian village. There will be food, visits with Santa Claus, pony rides, puppet shows, carriage rides, face painting, free family photos, live entertainment and more.

"We hope visitors will celebrate all weekend on the square. While they enjoy the special activities, they can take advantage of our shops, restaurants and entertainment," Lake added. "Shoppers are sure to find the perfect gift in Historic Downtown's more than 100 boutiques, art galleries, bookstores, apparel, gift and antique shops this holiday season."

McKinney Main Street, McKinney Community Development Corporation and the City of McKinney recently worked together to plant the town's living Christmas tree in Mitchell Park. Mayor Bill Whitfield, Mayor Pro Tem Thad Helsley and other dignitaries will be on hand to dedicate the tree at the tree-lighting ceremony at Mitchell Park on Friday at 6:15 p.m.

"The 27-foot tall Eastern Red Cedar tree will serve as the official Christmas tree of McKinney for years to come. It follows the Green initiatives of the city and the quality of life values from the MCDC board to have a living tree," said Lake.

Saturday Tastings in the Wine and Beer Department Little Joey just LOVES the Saturday wine tastings at Central Market - he particularly likes the blind tastings, when he can sneak a snort while Mommie's not looking. (Great nose!) More info
