This is actually the building where D Magazine was from 1995-2000. They always had the identity crisis of whether to use "Place" in the name.

Back then it was a pretty eclectic building too, including one of the earliest internet porn businesses, which occupied the floors above and below us -- We were on 17 and their offices were in the Penthouse. No elevator. So all their folks had to march through our office.

I was carried out by firemen while working one Sunday afternoon. Turns out a disgruntled janitor who was a reformed mobster freaked out and tried to blow up the building. The fire alarms weren't working on the upper floors, so I was blissfully unaware.

The Mexican restaurant on the ground floor was really good. Haven't been in years, but I think it is still there.

Wow... amazing history, Mike... thanks!!

Exactly how many firemen did it take to carry you out that Sunday? And, more importantly, did you like it!?

Two. It was more of a drag by the arms thing. Did not enjoy it a bit, and kept telling them I was capable of walking the stairs myself. But they would not relent.
