Mean Green defensive end Jeremiah Chapman has been awarded the Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Week following his final home game in a Mean Green uniform and a 27-26 North Texas victory.
Chapman, a senior from China Spring, Texas, had a career-high 16 tackles including 2.5 tackles for a loss and two forced fumbles to lead the North Texas defense in the 27-26 come-from-behind win over Western Kentucky. Of his 16 tackles, 11 were solo stops. The 16 tackle-performance was the third-best single-game effort in the Sun Belt this year and the best by any North Texas defender this season.
His 2.5 tackles for loss totaled 13 yards and two came on critical third down plays that forced a Western Kentucky punt. Chapman has had at least one tackle for loss in nine of 11 games this season and leads the Sun Belt Conference with 14.5 tackles for loss this season.
North Texas returns to action on Saturday, Dec. 1 when it faces FIU in its final game of the season in Miami at 6 pm.
