Dallas Mayor Leppert donating most of salary for scholarships
Dallas Mayor Tom Leppert is putting (some) of his money where his mouth is: He's expected to announce at a news conference at Madison High School today that he will donate $50,000 of his $60,000 annual salary for the next four years to a new scholarship program for disadvantaged Dallas high school students. Not exactly sure why he's hanging onto that extra $10,000, since, as the DMN points out, he's got money to spare from his stint heading Turner Construction, but hey, it's still a nice gesture.
Leppert's money will be combined with a larger amount donated by Chesapeake Energy, which I guess figures they'd better do something nice for the area since they're ticking off a bunch of people in Fort Worth.

I do have to admit that I don't see any of the other rich people on the Council doing the same (that I know of). Good for Mayor Leppert.

Hey, I said it was nice gesture -- just pointing out that he's hanging onto 10 grand for some unknown reason. But I do applaud him for doing something good for education in Texas.
