Technology-based entrepreneurship seminar to be held at UTD
So, you say you're tech savvy to the max; you've got the skills and smarts to implement cutting edge technology stuff and make things happen at a functional level, but maybe you're not so adept at the "making money" level?
Well, Mr./Ms. know-it-not-quite-all, the Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship at the University of Texas at Dallas has just the seminar for you - and it's free to students in the UT System along with faculty, staff and researchers. Head on over (virtually) to the university's online store, add the ($95 to everyone else) course to your shopping cart and enter "IIE1207" on the next page in the promotional code space.
The seminar will be held on Friday, Dec. 7 from 8 a.m. 'til 3:30 p.m. in the TI Auditorium at the Erik Jonsson School of Engineering & Computer Science.
Designed to teach the basics of technology-based entrepreneurship, participants will hear from venture capitalists, UTD faculty, legal experts and licensing professionals, along with entrepreneurs who have successfully employed many of the techniques to be discussed. Here's a list of topics on the agenda:
* An overview of technology commercialization.
* Identifying and evaluating opportunities.
* Protecting intellectual property.
* The basics of business plans and business models.
* An overview of startup funding.
* What investors are looking for.
