DCTA will offer free service during the month of December

LEWISVILLE — Lewisville Mayor Gene Carey and Highland Village Mayor Dianne Costa will take the first ride Friday, Nov. 30 on a new Denton County Transportation Authority (DCTA) bus service connecting the two cities. The mayors, along with special guests, will board at the Lewisville Municipal Annex, 1197 W. Main Street, at 4 p.m. and ride the full circuit to Highland Village and back.

DCTA will open Connect Route 22 to the public on Saturday, Dec. 1. The new circuit will link Highland Village with Lewisville to provide a transportation alternative to the commercial and retail growth along FM 407. This route will have direct service to The Marketplace at Highland Village, The Shops of Highland Village and the new Wal-Mart. Additionally, this route will have stops near Morris, Highland Village Road, Sellmeyer and Garden Ridge. Riders can transfer to other Connect routes in Lewisville near the city’s Municipal Annex.

The services are set to operate Monday through Saturday starting at approximately 9 a.m. and running until 6 p.m. The new Route 22 will operate with one-hour frequencies and travel along FM 407, Garden Ridge, Valley, Fox, Interstate 35E (S. Stemmons) and FM 1171. It will connect with Routes 20 and 21 at Valley and Main in Lewisville.

To raise awareness of the new route, DCTA will offer a month of free service on Connect Route 22 as well as free transfers to Connect services on routes 20 and 21 in Lewisville. The free service will be available from Dec. 1 through Monday, Dec. 31. Beginning Jan. 2, fares will be $1.25 for a one-way trip.
