SMU women’s swimming and diving in competition at USA Nationals
Members of the No. 12 SMU women's swimming and diving team competed at the 2007 USA Swimming Short Course Nationals Thursday. Mustangs Jennifer Blackman, Candace Blackman and Angela San Juan Cisneros each swam in the first day of competition.
C. Blackman finished tied for 14th in the qualifying heats of the 50 free, while San Juan Cisneros came in 20th. Both women advanced to the finals in the event. J. Blackman finished fifth in the qualifying heat of the 500 free, earning her a spot in the finals as well.
J. Blackman turned in a fifth-place performance in the finals of the 500 free, stopping the clock in 4:44.48, just 5.15 seconds behind the first-place finisher.
C. Blackman finished sixth in the B final of the 50 free, touching the wall in 23.11, less than half a second behind the first-place finisher in the B final. San Juan Cisneros also finished sixth in the C final, touching the wall in 23.20.
San Juan Cisneros is expected to compete in the 100 fly prelims Friday morning. C. Blackman, J. Blackman and Sascha Van den Branden will all compete in the preliminaries for the 200 free Friday morning as well.
