UT Arlington tennis players compete at ITA All-American championships

Freshman David Costa and sophomore Klara Jagosova win only matches for Mavericks.

Sophomore Dmitry Minkin along with freshmen David Costa and Hugo Taracido represented UT Arlington men's tennis at the Polo Ralph Lauren ITA All-American Championships this weekend.

Costa went 2-1 for the weekend, winning 6-1, 6-1 in straight sets over Oral Robert's Cuan Farquharson. In the round of 32, Costa won 6-4, 1-6, 6-4 over Nicholas Boulieris from Marquette before retiring 5-2 to SMU's Robin Fahgen.

Minkin, who received byes to the round of 16, dropped the 6-4, 7-5 decision to Kentucky's Brad Cox. Taracido lost 6-2, 6-1 to Benny Althaus from Denver in the round of 32.

Sophomore Klara Jagosova and freshman Monika Hadvigerova represented UT Arlington women's tennis at the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships this weekend.

Jagosova dropped her first set 3-6 before battling back 6-1, 6-4 for the win over Anete Badera from Pepperdine. In the round of 32, she fell in straight sets (6-1, 6-0) to Georgia Tech's Noelle Hickey.

Hadvigerova fell 6-1, 6-2 to Iowa's Jacquelin Lee who is ranked 108th in the nation by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA).

The duo, also teamed up in double competition where they lost 8-6 to Kanykey Koichumanova and Canna Furuta from Cal State Northridge.

The Mavs next tournament is set for Oct. 12-14 when they travel to Midland, Texas for the Midland Invitational.
