Six Flags in Arlington detonates, demolishes 128-foot “Wildcatter” ride
On Tuesday afternoon the Dallas Demolition Co. carefully administered a series of specially-placed detonation devices on Six Flags in Arlington's "Cliff-hanger" ride and friggin' blew the 128-foot tall hunk of old red metal to tha ground, maaaan.
A Legacy
Goodbye, old friend. You will always be remembered for inspiring thousands upon thousands of teenagers to gleefully waste their free change.
As is the cycle of theme-park attractions, the twenty-five-year-old tower (known as the "Wildcatter") will be replaced by a new ride, specifically the "Tony Hawk Big Spin Rollercoaster." Lame.
The Star-Telegram has actual, excellent footage of the demolition, noteworthy for its three different camera angles as well as its close-up of a Six Flags employee's mustache.
Dallas Demolition Company has been exploding things since 1940.

Who ever knew it as the 'Wildcatter'?...I thought it was always the Cliffhanger?...just a local name?
Anyway, I always thought this one might be destined for the scrap heap...I'm surprised it lasted this long. I figured they'd leave it there if only for the fact that its footprint didn't really take up that much room - and there wouldn't be much worth replacing it with in such a small space. No offense to Tony Hawk, but that ride does sound pretty lame. Although, here's a link to what I assume is a promo video for what it will look like...may not be bad for a 'family' ride:

I'm just glad I had my last ride and failure at the floating-coin trick on the Cliff' last year before they tore it down.
Makes you wonder if they'd ever touch the Judge Roy Scream...does anyone even ride that anymore?

It's like a cross between the teacups ride and a really lame kiddie roller coaster.

I thought it was called Cliffhanger, too. =( And losing my penny was the best part of the ride!
