Mesquite ISD Board of Trustees named to Top 5 in Texas
The Mesquite ISD Board of Trustees has been named a 2007 Honor Board by the Texas Association of School Administrators (TASA). The award goes to the top five school boards in the state of Texas. The award was presented September 30 at the annual Texas Association of School Boards (TASB)/TASA convention in Dallas.
The award recognized the 2006-2007 Mesquite ISD Board of Trustees, which includes:
Rita Crump, President
Robert Seward, Vice President
Greg Everett, Secretary
Gary Bingham, Member
Kevin Carbo, Member
Randy Dobbs, Member
Cary Tanamachi, M.D., Member
The Board reached Honor Board status following several rounds of competition. In June, the MISD submitted a 42-page nomination packet consisting of detailed examples and documentation of how the Board functions in the best interest of students according to 10 different criteria. The entry was submitted to the Region 10 Educational Service Center; and on July 31, the MISD Board was selected to represent Region 10 at the state level.
TASA’s School Board Awards Committee reviewed the regional entries in August, at which time five were selected as 2007 Honor Boards. The MISD Board was also named an Honor Board in 1998.
“It is a tremendous honor and privilege to have this outstanding Board. Their focus is consistently on providing resources for our students and teachers and benefits that keep us at the competitive edge with surrounding districts,” said MISD Superintendent Dr. Linda Henrie. “Each member serves with dedication, commitment, and focus on providing all students with the education they will need to succeed upon graduation.”
TASA created the School Board Awards Program in 1971 to recognize those school boards that have demonstrated outstanding dedication and rendered ethical service to the children of Texas. The criteria emphasize evidence of support for educational performance improvement. The awards program allows each regional selection committee to submit up to two nominations for state competition, one from districts with less than 1,000 students and one from districts with more than 1,000 students.
