SMU tennis’ David Kuczer named Conference USA player of the month
Senior David Kuczer was named September's C-USA Men's Tennis Player of the Month for his outstanding performances in the first three weeks of competition this fall.
Kuczer won the Rice Invitational title in Singles Flight A, knocking off Jan Zelezny of LSU (5-7, 6-4, 6-2), Ross Cunningham of Tulsa (4-6, 7-5, 6-0) and Kevin Dessauer of LSU (1-6, 7-5, 6-4).
Kuczer then went on to the Polo Ralph Lauren All-American Tennis Championships, where he swept his competition in the pre-qualifying round. Kuczer blew past Clemes Geercken of Oral Roberts (6-0, 6-1) before beating David Galic of Baylor (6-0, 4-6, 7-5) and Robin Fernandes of UTSA in straight sets (6-1, 6-4). Kuczer moved on to the qualifying round, where he was eliminated by Sascha Heinemann of Hawaii in three sets.
The SMU men's tennis team is back in action Oct. 12-14 at the Midland Invitational.
