Theater Spotlight of the Week: Marco Salinas
Interview with Marco Salinas, Director of Macbeth
Shakespeare Dallas is presenting their third fall production, Macbeth, which will be playing at Samuell-Grand Amphitheatre for two weeks, and then will travel to Addison Circle Park for another week of performances. I feature Director Marco Salinas this week because to perform this dark melodrama in the park for all ages seems like a daunting task.
We start off by talking about his career and how became an integral part of Shakespeare Dallas. I ask him if he prefers directing, acting, or designing, and then what attracts him to Shakespeare's works.

I heard that the production is not set traditionally, so Salinas talk about the two settings of the show and his intent on doing so. I ask him how he will make this dark tale of greed and corruption appeal to all ages since Shakespeare in the Park is a family-friendly environment.
The theater world knows about the "curse of Macbeth" in which saying the name in a theater is believed to cause bad things to happen. Therefore, I ask him if the curse kicked in at all during rehearsals. Since the show previewed October 3, we end by talking about the first performance of the show in front of an audience and if anything had to be changed.
Macbeth plays at Samuell-Grand Amphitheatre from October 3-7 & 10-13 and will then transfer to Addison Circle Park for performances on October 17-21. Tickets can be reserved in advance online.
