Verizon Wireless has major outage in Dallas area for 5 hours on Friday afternoon
DALLAS Verizon Wireless had a major outage Friday afternoon, cutting cell-phone service to thousands of customers from 2:50 p.m. to 8 p.m. Verizon Wireless won't say exactly how many thousands of customers were affected, under the pretext that it doesn't release customer data. Nice of them to be thinking about our privacy while we're stuck without cell-phone service. "Most" of the Dallas-Fort Worth area was affected. A spokesman told the DMN that "a critical piece of wireless connectivity equipment failed" ... "the piece of equipment that connects all the cell sites to the switch ... crashed." But hey, it's the "first significant outage" for Dallas, so that's good, right? Sure.
