Dallas’ Texas Syndicate prison gang indicted

On Thursday, 14 members of the prison gang known as the Texas Syndicate had a racketeering conspiracy case filed against them by federal prosecutors in Dallas. The gang is said to be involved in typical gangish things, i.e. drug trafficking, a lot of murders, possibly some littering.

A big story in its own right, the case is also a north Texas first: never before has the use of these statues (known as the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations statues) been used to dismantle a prison gang in Dallas.

Ten murders allegedly undertaken by the TS occurred in Dallas, particularly in the much-publicized 2003 murder at Club Suavamente that used to operate on Mockingbird Lane.

Bemused, says:

We can't condone littering. Drug trafficking fulfills a societal demand, and some people probably deserve to be murdered, but littering is never permissible. I'm not in favor of the death penalty, but those who befoul the streets with rubbish make me reconsider my stance.
