Northwest ISD to fingerprint employees
Following the discovery of a dead custodian with dual identities and a criminal background at Chisholm Trail Middle School in Rhome, Northwest ISD has decided to fingerprint all custodians, cafeteria workers, substitute teachers and bus drivers to improve safety for the children.
Seems logical, no? Of course, the article also says that Texas school districts are not yet required to do national background checks on teachers, something which will change in "the next several years" due to a new state law. Gee, it's only 2007 -- why not wait a little longer to protect our children?

Not a great situation. But, to be a certified teacher you already are fingerprinted and your background is checked, so technically school districts should only need to check out the non-certified staff members.
