Scientology pamphlet features Mayor Leppert’s “approval”
A Scientology pamphlet circling around entitled "The Way to Happiness" features the writing of L. Ron Hubbard and something extra: a picture of Dallas mayor Tom Leppert and the phrase "Presented by the Office of the Mayor."
Leppert's office has denied any involvement, so naturally they're a little peeved. The booklet is being distributed by a group called the "Way to Happiness Foundation" out of Glendale, CA.
If anyone out there finds a copy on their windshield, please send one in.

I guess scientologists do not believe in the Texas Ethics Commission rules.

John, you seem to be doing alot of guessing. It might pay to get some facts, as guessing can make one look foolish. For starters The Way To Happiness Foundation is a separate [non profit] organization from the Church Of Scientology. Its job is to distribute and promote a Non-Religious Moral Code, based on common sense, to improve morals in society Why you would compare it to the Texas Ethics Commision Rules, only you would know. It does suggest that you have no knowledge of what The Way To Happiness Foundation is or what the booklet is or promotes
It might pay to look at the booklet and its contents, if you are able to and then maybe you could make a fair comment worth something

I commend John for not knowing what "The Way To Happiness Foundation is or what the booklet is or promotes." I think that's something to be proud of, really.

Kevin, Apparently "The way to Happiness Foundation" does not practice what it preaches in the way of Morale Code. Or do I need to read their material to find out it is ok to use someone as a spokesman without their permission? I guess everyone has different levels of morality.

Furthermore, Kevin, do you have a link a little more specific. I cannot spend all day wading through that mess of a commercial website to find this download. And I'd have a great deal of difficulty putting much stock in anything coming off that nickel and dime website to begin with.

All foundations and organizations are inherently fraudulent. Nothing is more detrimental to creativity and discovery than groupthink. As Thoreau writes:
The greater part of what my neighbors call good I believe in my soul to be bad, and if I repent of anything, it is very likely to be my good behavior. What demon possessed me that I behaved so well?

Ah, Mr. Yost, a fellow transcendentalist. I knew I'd find a glimmer of hope amidst these blogs. Whoever quotes Whitman will complete the circle.

I too appreciate discovering a similar-mind, but I couldn't so lightly don such a cloak.
Although I've been to Thoreau's wood, and to Emerson's home, I still can't call myself a transcendentalist.
I've stood directly behind Rembrandt's easel- doesn't make me an artist.
And while we speak of it- just because we all type our thoughts, and publish them here- it doesn't make us writers either.

One package of samples of The Way to Happiness booklet was sent to Mayor Leppert's for his approval. To read it:

It is being reprinted and distributed by many non-Scientology groups and organizations throughout the world.
Millions of non-Scientologists use the solutions L Ron Hubbard developed to make it easier to understand and resolve problems in life.
