SMU men’s soccer shuts out Marshall, 3-0
Mustangs improve to 2-0-1 in Conference USA play and 7-2-2 overall.
Junior forward Scott Geppert scored the game-winning goal in the 23rd minute when he converted an assist from sophomore forward Dane Saintus to give the No. 10 SMU men's soccer team a 3-0 victory over Marshall in Huntington, W.V., Saturday night.
The victory improves the Mustangs' record to 7-2-2 overall and 2-0-1 against Conference USA opponents. Marshall slips to 7-4-1 overall and 1-1-0 in conference games.
Geppert's goal - his second of the season - was just the beginning for the Mustangs. Defender Adrian Chevannes - who started the season as a forward for the Mustangs - doubled the Ponies' lead in the 37th minute when he came forward to midfield and dribbled through the Marshall defense and buried a shot into the left side of the net to give SMU a 2-0 lead at halftime.
Junior defender Ryan Mirsky capped off the scoring with an unassisted goal in the 85th minute.
The Mustangs return home to face UAB at Westcott Field at 7 p.m. this Wednesday, Oct. 17, in a game that will be broadcast on CSTV.
