TCU tennis’ Munch-Soegaard takes title in Midland

Nina Munch-Soegaard won five matches over weekend, culminating with win over #2 seed Sylvia Kasakowski of Pepperdine.

Nina Munch-Soegaard, a sophomore on the TCU women's tennis team, knocked off the No. 2 seed on Sunday to capture the singles championship at The Racquet Club Collegiate Invitational.

Munch-Soegaard defeated No. 2 Sylvia Kosakowski of Pepperdine by a score of 7-5, 5-7, 6-3 in the championship round. Kosakowski is currently ranked No. 38 in the Fila/ITA collegiate poll.

"Nina and Kewa (Nichols) both played high level tennis this weekend," said TCU women's tennis assistant coach Colin Foster. "Kewa came up a little short in three sets against the eventual runner-up, and Nina was able to pull out a couple of close matches like she's been able to do her entire career at TCU. I'm proud of their efforts and hopefully we'll be able to build on this going into regionals next weekend."

Munch-Soegaard, who was the tournament's No. 3 seed and is currently ranked No. 78 nationally, won five matches on the weekend to earn the singles title.

The TCU netters will return to action on Friday to compete at the ITA Regionals in Lubbock, Texas.
