University of Dallas men’s soccer shuts out Rose-Hulman Institute

Crusaders win their second game in a row and improve to 9-1-1 for the year.

The UD men picked up their second win in a row since having their 7-game winning streak snapped, and improved to 9-1-1 on the year. The 3-0 victory over the Fightin’ Engineers from Rose-Hulman was led by junior forward Adam Lunger (Keller TX, Keller H.S.) with 2 goals. Lunger’s first goal came 2 minutes and 32 seconds into the game, while the second occurred in the second half. The 2 scores give him 5 in a 2 game span and bring his record to 54 career goals. He is also 3 points shy of tying Kyle Francis for the UD career points record at 127. Junior midfielders and California natives Bennett Rawicki (Bakersfield, CA/Grace Memorial H.S.) and Mike McIlholn (San Diego, CA/St. Augustine H.S.) assisted Lunger on his first goal, while senior defender Jerad Lee (Grapevine, TX/Grapevine H.S.) provided the assist on the second goal. Junior forward Gabe Barkley (Chippewa Falls, WI/Chippewa Falls H.S.) also added an unassisted goal in the first half.

Junior goalkeeper Chris Sumcizk (Grapevine, TX/Nolan Catholic H.S.) complimented the offense with a shutout that featured 2 saves. The UD defense also held the Fightin’ Engineers to 7 shots.

The offensive showcase was also marked by several breakaways, including 2 by junior midfielder Stuart Brown (Boerne, TX/Boerne H.S.). UD took 29 shots total. 12 in the first half, 15 in the second.

With the win the Crusaders move to 9-1-1, and travel to St. Louis for 2 games next Saturday and Sunday. UD faces Webster University on Saturday, October 20 and Maryville University on Sunday, October 21. Both games start at 2:00pm.
