Two seniors from Irving's Nimitz High School, Jaclyn Le and Jonathan O’Connor (no relation to Sandra, I don't think), have been invited to Washington, D.C. by the Annenberg Foundation to participate in sessions with U.S. Supreme Court justices.

Mark Foley and Larry Craig. For a more "hands-on" experience, the students will also get to meet with Mark Foley and Larry Craig.

Le and O’Connor will be led by Chief Justice John Roberts, Justices Stephen Breyer, Anthony Kennedy, and Antonin Scalia, and Retired Justice Sandra Day O’Connor. The trip will take place on November 4-6.

The kids have prepared by studying two of the lesser-controversial cases the Supreme Court has decided: Yick Wo v. Hopkins and Korematsu v. United States—both of which involve legal decisions regarding Asian American rights. Also, Jac and Jon have been preparing questions regarding judicial interpretation and the federal court system in general.

While there, the foundation has asked the students to participate in another project – production of a DVD on the legislative process that will include a visit with Congressman Pete Sessions as part of the videotaped footage. Yee haw, Pete Sessions.

The students are seniors in Helen Bradley’s Advanced Placement Government class. They were selected because of their willingness to undertake extra work, such as entering social studies competitions (nerds) and because of their aspirations and competence.
