Secret Headquarters forced to close down after vandalism
It's sad when you learn that a great music venue is closing via a changed name on the club's MySpace page, which is exactly how we learned about this incident (true, a day later than some slightly more clued in to Denton). Secret Headquarters in Denton was forced to close up shop on Monday after some vandalism over the weekend. WeShotJR picked up on the closure Monday morning and a slew of outraged comments and wild (some/most silly) accusations flew pointing fingers at local bands/friends of the venue.
Also commenting on the WSJR story were a couple of the owners, Scott Porter from Record Hop and Cody Robinson of Medicine Window. According to their posts, once the venue's landlord saw the vandalism behind the club, which included a large wooden cross and white roofing latex, he freaked out and began threatening the owners and called the cops. In the end it seems the landlord pulled the plug on the guys and what was likely just a passing act from some drunk idiot put the nail in SHQ's coffin.
The saga, however, will continue for a bit, as some speculate that the vandals will soon be revealed. Cue the creepily dramatic, soap opera organ music.
For Cody's obit on SHQ read here.
Damn it.
