On Tuesday, Oct. 23 from 11:30 to 1:30, the Dee J. Kelly Alumni Center will serve as venue for a luncheon lecture titled "Calming the Storm: Effective Responses in Times of Disaster."
Presented by the Tarrant Area Community of Churches - in partnership with Faith and Life @ TCU, the Harris College of Nursing & Health Sciences, Volunteer Center of North Texas, Catholic Charities and Amerigroup Community Care - the talk will focus on creating effective communication links between faith-based congregations and emergency response agencies. The goal would be to prepare these groups for collaboration when disasters strike - as they are sure to do.
Also covered will be the nuts and bolts of disaster response, to include who does what when, and why. The manner in which the Red Cross certifies churches for use as shelters will be discussed, as will the credentialing of clergy for the pastoral care of victims.
The event is free and open to the public; since seating is limited, it would be a good idea to RSVP by registering here, or by calling 817-257-7132.
